It’s hard to believe that we are well into August!  And with this incredible wave of heat, we hope you are staying cool while you enjoy the height of summer!

With heat pushing the high 30’s this week, we are trying not to complain, because we all know what is just around the corner.  But with back to school on the horizon and summer vacations coming to a close, locals want to get the most out of the remainder of August.  It makes it the perfect time to announce our CLIENT APPRECIATION PARTY!!

 

So how else can you beat the heat and finish the season with a bang? Here’s some of our favorite ways to stay cool in YEG:

1.  Hit the Beach:  Contrary to popular belief, we really do have some great beaches to spend a day soaking up the sun and splashing in the water.  Within a relatively short drive are public day use beaches such as Aspen Beach at Gull Lake, Wabamun Lake Provincial Park, Buffalo Lake Provincial Recreation Area and Sylvan Lake.  As with any lake use, always head out properly prepared and check and weather or health advisories before leaving.

 

2.  Hit the Patio:  One thing Edmonton has no shortage of in summer, is patios.  Whether you enjoy a river valley view and cool drink from Hotel Macdonald, a local brew on the root top of Craft Beer Market, or an afternoon of people watching from Julio’s Barrio on Whyte, this is practically tradition in our city.

 

3.  Hit the Pool:  Once again for 2018, the City of Edmonton is offering free use of outdoor public pools around the city!


4.  Hit the Mall:  Looking to escape the heat completely?  Enjoy a day walking through the air conditioned interior of West Edmonton Mall or the brand new Outlet Shopping at the airport.  Get in some back to school shopping, enjoy a meal, or even hit the pool here as well with the Water Park!

As with any waver of heat, if you will be enjoying the outdoors, don’t forget:

  • Stay Hydrated:  Pack and drink plenty of fluids
  • NEVER leave a pet or child inside the car in the heat
  • Always ensure a pets needs for water and shade are met
  • Pay attention to weather and temperature forecasts
  • Eat small meals and more often
  • If the heat is excessive, postpone any activities that require physical exertion
  • Take frequent breaks from the heat
  • Be prepared with sunscreen, water umbrella for shade and all necessary items if you will be in the sun
