Happy October!  We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving long weekend and fantastic start to fall!

It’s a big day of possibility and potential change in Edmonton and Strathcona County!  A friendly reminder that today is a day to make your voice heard and your opinion count.  Perhaps you are content with the forward motions of your area, and perhaps you are looking in a new direction.  Either way, the Mayoral Election is underway and polls are open until 8 pm.  For more information on your local candidates or where to vote, please visit:

Our city is consistently moving and shaking, always under construction.....which we all are made painfully aware of on our drive home.  New roads, bridges, buildings, stores, a constantly evolving landscape, including many changes in our downtown core.  Aside from the election, what are some of the biggest changes in our city?


At 90 to 95% complete, the funicular in downtown Edmonton is slated to still open this fall, with the grand opening slated for some time after the election.  And it will be free to use!  Patrons will be able to summon a ride with the push of a button.  There will also be a set of stairs, a track for runners and a bike rail for cyclists.

Edmonton’s favorite riverboat was sold in 2016, and the 25 year old fixture has been renovated and is waiting on final permits in order to open and showcase her facelift!  According to new owner, Jay Esterer, partons will enjoy the updated restaurant and bar, capable of holding 150-200 people, with the opportunity to host events and parties.

Locals flocked to the unplanned shoreline that suddenly popped up in our River Valley this summer following a diversion of waterflow from a nearby construction project.  While sun soakers enjoyed a day on the beach, locals weren’t as excited about the results, making a space as controversial as wished for.

After a very lengthy delay, and to very hushed fanfare, the brand new Walterdale Bridge is finally open, and it is a beautiful addition to our river valley!  The three lane bridge will be officially complete this month to the tune of a final $155 million pricetag.

For many of us, this is a bitter sweet goodbye.  While we hail our fancy new Rogers Place, there is something to be said about the memories shared under the roof of Rexall Place, originally Northlands Coliseum. The building was home to our beloved Oilers for 42 years, winning 4 of their 5 Stanley Cups here.  The floor has seen the likes of acts ranging from Pavarotti to the Eagles, The Canadian Finals Rodeo to Championship Games and Drafts.  Many of us saw our first bands play here, and shed a tear at the final game.  The end of an era.
